Power Formulas

To calculate I or R for the components rated in terms in power at a specified voltage, it may be convenient to use the power formulas in different forms. There are three basic power formulas, but each can be in three forms for nine combinations.
P = VI P = I²R P = V²/R
or I = P/V or R = P/I² or R = V²/P
or V = P/I or I = √P/R or V = √PR
We get all these formulas based on the derived formula from Ohm's Law V = IR and Power formula P = VI.
Example: How much current is needed for a 600-W, 120-V toaster?
Answer: I = P/V = 600/120
I = 5 A
Example: How much resistance of a 600- W, 120- V toaster?
Answer: R = V²/P = (120) ²/600 = 14,400/600
R = 24 Ω
Example: How much current is needed for a 24- Ω R that dissipates 600 W?
Answer: I = √P/R = √600 W/24 Ω = √25
I = 5 A

Electric power is the rate, per unit time, at which electrical energy is transferred by an electric circuit. The SI unit of power is the watt, one joule per second.DRAVEN wrote:How Is Power Measured?
where
Q is electric charge in coulombs
t is time in seconds
I is electric current in amperes
V is electric potential or voltage in volts

While energy is 'joules', power is 'joules per second'. Well, in another words Power is 'watt' and Energy is 'watt-hour'. Another difference is that energy can be stored whereas power cannot be stored. While energy comes with a time component, Power is an instantaneous quantity.

Power in electronics is converting electric energy to heat, its like the process of how energy is converted.
Energy is the power from sources such as electricity and coal that makes machines work or provides heat

Does the definition of power from physics and electronics differ? Cause in physics, I think power is more complicated to explain.

In physics, there is more power formula like:
Power= Work/Time
Power= Force x Velocity

Yes, that's true. Sa physics kasi pwedeng irelate yung power sa velocity and force. Basta, too complicated.

Are all of the power formulas are just from ohms law? Is there any other theorem that can be used?

Ohm's law equation (formula): V = I × R and the power law equation (formula): P = I × V. P = power, I or J = Latin: influare, international ampere, or intensity and R = resistance. V = voltage, electric potential difference Δ V or E = electromotive force (emf = voltage).

as far as i know, there are other power formulas, like in physics, as what leon answered there is this formula power = work / time and power = force x velocity. Though it is not related to electrical circuits.
